Lt. Gov. Statement on Family Event

(Lincoln, Neb.) DOWNLOAD FAMILY PHOTO - Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy today released the following statement regarding an accident involving a hand gun and his son, Joel Sheehy.

"Connie and I, and our entire family, deeply appreciate the support and prayers," said Lt. Gov. Sheehy. "We feel incredibly blessed that Joel’s injuries are not life threatening.  While recovery will take time, we feel fortunate that Joel is receiving excellent medical care and that he will be ok."

While full details will not be available immediately, all known information follows: Early this morning, Joel, 21, was handling a firearm that he owns in his Omaha apartment when the gun accidentally discharged. Joel then asked his roommate to call 911. The bullet entered Joel’s right front cheek and exited behind his right ear. Joel is under medical supervision and in stable condition. He will undergo surgery this afternoon to repair facial fractures.  No further information is available at this time.
