New Round of Recovery Funding Awarded for State Road Updates

(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced the distribution of more than $19 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for improvements to an interchange and three bridges in the Omaha area. The four projects were part of the August bid letting held by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR).

The Douglas County projects were let as one federal project with the contract going to Hawkins Construction Co. for $19,175,728. The contract will include updates to:

  • I-480 W.B./US-75 S.B. Interchange

  • S.B. US-75 over 30th St. Exit

  • S.B. US-75 over Burt & Cuming St.

  • W.B. Bridge over 24th St.

In addition, seven new ARRA-related projects are being offered for bids by NDOR with bid letting scheduled for September. The projects include:

So far, $124.2 million of the $157.8 million Nebraska received for state road and bridge improvements has been awarded, or more than 78 percent of the ARRA state transportation funds. Work has begun on 26 of the 35 projects under contract. NDOR will continue to release new projects for bid each month until all state road ARRA funds are awarded.
