Gov. Heineman Named to National Governors Association Executive Committee
(Biloxi, Miss.) Gov. Dave Heineman today was announced as a new member of the National Governors Association (NGA) Executive Committee during the closing session of the organization’s 101st annual meeting.
“Serving on the Executive Committee provides an additional opportunity to weigh in on policies and issues impacting our state and others across the nation,” Gov. Heineman said. “I look forward to working with my fellow committee members.”
The NGA is the collective voice of the nation’s governors and one of Washington’s most respected public policy organizations. The nine-member Executive Committee is responsible for establishing the priorities of the NGA, which are lobbied for at the federal level on behalf of all states. The Executive Committee supervise the association’s operations and has authority over all policy issues, including issues impacting federalism, homeland security, the federal budget, and federal tax policy.
The Governor just concluded a year serving as chairman of the NGA’s Education, Early Childhood and Workforce Committee. He previously chaired the association’s Economic Development and Commerce Committee.
The annual meeting focused on issues including energy and infrastructure development, the economy and emergency preparedness efforts ahead of the fall flu season. |
