Governor Appoints Monty Fredrickson to Lead
Nebraska Department of Roads
(Lincoln Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced that he has appointed Monty Fredrickson of Lincoln to be the Director and State Engineer of the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR).
Fredrickson, 62, took over as Acting Director in June and has served as Deputy Director of Engineering since 1992. He officially begins today as Director.
“I’m pleased to welcome Monty to my cabinet,” Gov. Heineman said. “He knows and understands every aspect of the Department of Roads. He works closely with federal officials and others across the state. Monty has the knowledge, professionalism and experience to be a superb director.”
As head of engineering services for NDOR, Fredrickson ran a division coordinating bridge, traffic and right-of-way studies; designing, planning and developing roadways and road improvement projects; overseeing materials and research; and working with officials in city and county government to coordinate local roads projects.
He started his career at the department in 1970, working as a survey chief and inspector for the department’s Omaha construction district. He came to Lincoln to work as a designer the following year, working his way up to assistant design engineer over the next 17 years. In that time, he worked on projects for rural and urban areas, as well as expressway and Interstate projects.
He returned to Omaha, working for four years as District Two Engineer in charge of construction and maintenance before becoming Deputy Director of Engineering.
A native of Stromsburg, he was a mechanical engineer with Shell Oil Company in New Orleans for a year after graduating from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1969 with a degree in civil engineering.
Fredrickson is a registered professional engineer. His salary is $135,000. |
