Gov. Heineman Seeks Applicants
for State Board of Education
(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman is seeking qualified candidates to represent District 2 residents on the Nebraska Board of Education. Kerry Winterer is resigning after starting this week as CEO of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. The Governor will appoint a new board member to complete the term, which runs through 2012.
“I want to thank Kerry for his service on the board,” Gov. Heineman said. “I look forward to finding someone who brings passion and commitment to the Board of Education.”
Winterer submitted his resignation to the State Board of Education on July 13. To take effect it must be accepted by the board. It is anticipated the board will take up the matter at the next meeting on Aug. 12.
To be considered for the position, applicants must meet the qualifications set out for Board of Education members in state statute. Those not eligible for consideration include anyone actively involved in the teaching profession, as well as current state officers and members of other boards and commissions, unless the role of the board is limited to an advisory capacity.
Applicants must have lived within the boundaries of District 2 for at least six months. The district includes Cass, Saunders, and Washington Counties, as well as portions of Douglas and Sarpy Counties. Heineman may also choose to seek out additional qualified candidates.
Individuals interested in the position should send a cover letter and resume, along with a completed application form to Peggy King in the Governor’s Office, at P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509. The application form can be found on the Governor’s website or requested by calling the Governor’s Office. Applications will be accepted through the end of the day on Friday, Aug. 14.
