Gov. Heineman Appoints Leigh Ann Retelsdorf of Omaha
to 4th Judicial District Judgeship

(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of Leigh Ann Retelsdorf of Omaha to serve as a district court judge for the 4th Judicial District, which is located in Douglas County.

Retelsdorf, 53, has served as a Deputy Douglas County Attorney since 1987. She also has served as a Deputy Lancaster County Attorney.  Retelsdorf specializes in felony cases, particularly those involving child abuse, child sexual abuse and domestic violence. She has prosecuted over 100 jury trials.

Since 1984, she has been a member of the Nebraska State Bar Associations, and the U.S. District Court for Nebraska. She has served on the board of directors to several Omaha groups including Heartland Family Services, Project Harmony, the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, and a Methodist Hospital Development Committee for sexual assault.

During her career, Retelsdorf has won several awards including the Project Harmony Kids First Award in 2000; the American Society of Industrial Security Law Enforcement Professional of the Year in 1996; the Law Enforcement Community Coordination Department of Justice Award in 1996; and the YWCA Volunteer Award of Appreciation in 1993.

Retelsdorf graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in 1977, and received a law degree from the UNL College of Law in 1984.

She resides in Omaha with her husband Pat and two children.
