Additional Recovery Funds Awarded for State Road Improvements(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced the distribution of more than $28 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for upgrades to state highways. The 10 projects are the second group to be awarded ARRA funding in Nebraska. The second phase of improvements includes:
The I-80 Sidney – Chappell project in Cheyenne and Deuel Counties requires further review and will delay or may change the award. A local project east of O’Neill in Holt County was withdrawn after a review determined additional information was needed to satisfy federal requirements. Bids for this round of projects came in approximately 10 percent below construction estimates. In addition, the next series of ARRA-related projects to be offered for contract bids by NDOR are being announced. Bid letting is scheduled for May 21, with contracts to be awarded within 30 days for the six highway improvement projects. ARRA funding for all Nebraska roads is expected to total $235.6 million. So far, $54.2 million of the $157.8 million received for state road and bridge improvements has been awarded. NDOR will release new projects for bid approximately every 30 days until all state road ARRA funds have been awarded. The remaining transportation funding is divided as follows: the city of Omaha receives $23.2 million, the city of Lincoln $9.4 million, first class cities $29.2 million, counties $9 million, and trails and historical preservation projects $7 million. First-class city and city of Lincoln roads projects have already been announced. |
