(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman has granted a request by Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey for U.S. and Nebraska flags to be flown at half-staff in Omaha to honor the passing of Bernice Labedz, a former Nebraska state senator and Douglas County board member.

Flags will be flown at half-staff in her hometown of Omaha on the day of her funeral, Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The Governor has also directed that flags will be lowered at the Nebraska State Capitol building and the Governor’s residence on Wednesday as a sign of respect for Labedz and her service to the state.

She was 89.
