Nebraska Sends Personnel & Equipment
to Assist with Hurricane Preparations
(Lincoln, Neb.) Several Nebraska National Guard helicopters and personnel deployed today to the Gulf Coast to assist as National Guard and other emergency personnel prepare for Hurricane Gustav.
Four Nebraska National Guard helicopters and 21 personnel departed this morning for the Gulf Coast region. Air personnel flew a CH47 Chinook, a UH-60 Blackhawk, and two OH58 Kiowa helicopters to Mississippi in advance of the storm.
The state is responding to a request from Louisiana for additional assistance in advance of Hurricane Gustav, which is expected to make landfall in the Gulf Coast region tomorrow.
The Nebraska National Guard is currently planning to provide more extensive support to Gulf Coast states depending on the magnitude of the storm and the potential for damage. Nebraska National Guard personnel are in contact with the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va., and the National Guard headquarters in the potentially affected states. |
