Gov. Heineman Appoints Robert Batt of Omaha to Liquor Commission
“Bob is an experienced business leader and I am pleased he will serve on the commission,” Gov. Heineman said. “He has the ability to resolve difficult issues using common sense. I believe he will bring a balanced approach to the important matters presented to the liquor commission.” Batt, 60, will represent the Second Congressional District on the three person board. Members are subject to confirmation by the Legislature. Since 1971, Batt has worked at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha and is the vice president of the furniture and electronics company. From 2000 to 2003, Batt served on the State Comprehensive Capital Facilities Planning Committee which reviews projects requested in the biennial budget request process. He also served as chairman of the City of Omaha Personnel Board from 1998 to 2003. He is currently a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, based in Omaha. Batt’s appointment is effective today. He will fulfill Patrick Thomas’ term through May 24, 2013. Thomas resigned to pursue a position on the Sarpy County Board. The State Liquor Control Commission regulates all phases of the manufacturing, distribution and sales of liquor except as delegated by the Nebraska Liquor Control Act. Batt graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Business in 1976. |
