Gov. Heineman Names Ann Frohman as State’s Director of Insurance(Lincoln, NE) Governor Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of Ann Frohman to serve as the
Director of the Nebraska Department of Insurance (DOI). Frohman has served the department as Acting Director since October 2007 and has been Deputy Director since January 2004. Her appointment is effective immediately. “Ann is a respected leader within our department and with the insurance industry here in Nebraska,” Gov. Heineman said. “Nebraska is recognized for our many outstanding insurance companies. Ann is the right person to carry on Nebraska’s strong regulatory climate and competitive marketplace for insurers.” Frohman, 44, will direct the operations of the DOI. This department is charged with regulating and examining all insurance companies and certain related operations doing business in Nebraska. The department also administers the Excess Liability Fund and supervises the Residual Malpractice Insurance Authority. Frohman stated, “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of our state. Insurance matters are so very important to Nebraskans, our businesses and to the industry which provides many jobs here. I deeply appreciate being selected and I look forward to building upon the work of my predecessor, L. Tim Wagner, in promoting the three pillars of insurance regulation: insurer solvency, competitive markets and policyholders’ protections.” Frohman has over 15 years of service with the DOI. From 1990 to 1996, Frohman served as a staff attorney for the department where she provided legal counsel on property and casualty rate and form matters, marketing practices, consumer issues, unauthorized insurance activities, and corporate organizational and holding company issues. During this time, Frohman served in various capacities on legislative interim study committees, committees of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and was instrumental in organizing the Task Force on Insurance Fraud in 1995. In 1997, Frohman served as the State Risk Manager within the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services. She transitioned back to the DOI, as its general counsel in January 2000, and was appointed Deputy Director in January 2004. Frohman most recently served as Acting Director of the DOI. Frohman was raised in North Platte. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1985 from Kearney State College. She earned her law degree in 1989 from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Following her graduation, Frohman completed a judicial clerkship with the Nebraska Supreme Court. Frohman is married to Jan Frohman and has two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily. Frohman’s annual salary will be $104,000. |
