Lt. Gov. Sheehy Reminds Nebraskans to Fly
Flags at Half-Staff on Patriot Day
(Lincoln, NE) Pursuant to presidential proclamation, Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy has directed that flags at all state buildings and facilities be lowered to half-staff tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 11.
President George W. Bush has proclaimed Sept. 11 as Patriot Day and has called on all Americans to lower their flags in honor of those who died six years ago in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.
“Lowering the flag and taking a moment to remember the events of that day are small things we can all do to ensure we never forget the sacrifices made on that day,” Lt. Governor Sheehy said. “Patriot Day ensures that we will forever remember the many heroes of September 11th, and provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the people who dedicate their lives to saving others in communities across this state, our nation and around the world.”
Nebraskans are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff. The President also called on citizens to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. EDT in remembrance of all who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. |
