Gov. Heineman Announces Nebraska
Receives Third Disaster Declaration
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman was notified today by Federal Emergency Management Agency officials that President George W. Bush has approved a request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for parts of Nebraska affected by flooding earlier this summer.
The declaration covers damage resulting from storms during the period of June 11 to 16. The Governor requested the declaration on Aug. 3. The six counties included in the disaster declaration are Arthur, Chase, Dundy, Keith, McPherson, and Perkins Counties.
This is the third Presidential Disaster Declaration the state has received this summer as a result of flooding across wide areas of the state. A disaster declaration was also granted on July 25 for Buffalo, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Greeley, Hayes, Hitchcock, Howard, Kearney, Lincoln, Logan, Loup, Madison, Valley and Wheeler Counties.
A June 6 declaration included: Blaine, Brown, Cass, Custer, Gage, Garfield, Jefferson, Johnson, Keya Paha, Knox, Loup, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Saline, Saunders, and Wheeler Counties.
A total of 36 counties have qualified as disaster areas as a result of flooding.
The declaration allows federal emergency funding to be used in providing assistance to state and eligible local government agencies. Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures statewide. |
