Gov. Heineman Announces Nebraska
Receives Second Disaster Declaration
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman was notified today by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials that President George W. Bush has approved a request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for parts of Nebraska affected by recent flooding.
The declaration covers damage from storms that took place during the period of May 28 through June 2, 2007. Governor Heineman requested the declaration on June 27.
This is the second Presidential Disaster Declaration for Nebraska as a result of flooding that occurred this spring across wide areas of the state. President Bush signed a Presidential Disaster Declaration on June 6 of this year covering storms that occurred during the period of May 4 - 19, 2007.
The declaration covers 15 counties that experienced storm damage in late May and early June, including: Buffalo, Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Greeley, Hayes, Hitchcock, Howard, Kearney, Lincoln, Logan, Loup, Madison, Valley and Wheeler Counties.
The declaration allows federal emergency funding to be used in providing assistance to state and eligible local government agencies, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
