Gov. Heineman Appoints Kerry Winterer
of Omaha to State Board of Education

 

(Lincoln, NE) Governor Dave Heineman today named Kerry T. Winterer to the serve as the Second District member on the Nebraska Board of Education. This appointment takes effect immediately.

“I am confident in Kerry’s abilities to serve on the Board of Education,” Gov. Heineman said. “Kerry has a strong record of proven leadership in business and throughout the Omaha community. I am pleased to appoint Kerry, as he will bring good ideas and a solid dedication to the board.”

“Education is a key to the future of our state,” said Winterer. “We need to focus on how we educate our children because it will impact everything else – economic development, population growth, and our basic quality of life.”

The district includes Cass, Saunders, and Washington Counties, as well as portions of Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

Winterer has worked as General Counsel and Vice President for his own company, The Benefit Group, Inc. in Omaha, and has recently founded Moran Resources, Inc., providing consulting services in the health insurance industry.

Winterer has served a number of community organizations including the United Way of the Midlands, Heartland Family Services as President, Boy Scouts of America, Greater Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau Board, Dundee Presbyterian Church, and the Candlewood Homeowners Association as President. Winterer was named Nebraska’s 1999 Champion of Small Business by the Nebraska Business Development Council.

Winterer served as the Chairman of the Douglas County Republican Party from 1997 to 2001, and as the National Committeeman for the Nebraska Republican Party from 2004 to 2005. Winterer ran for the Legislature, District 4 seat unsuccessfully in 2006.

Winterer is a 1975 graduate of the Columbia University School of Law in New York, New York, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1972. He graduated Gering High School and was born in Scottsbluff.

Ann Mactier resigned her seat, effective June 6. She had served on the board since 1996. Winterer will complete the term, which runs through 2008.
