Meet Snickers!

Snickers is the First Puppy of Nebraska’s First Family, Governor Dave Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem.

Snickers is a “Silkese” which is a Maltese & Silky Terrier hybrid, and he weighs about 4 pounds. He’ll be around 11 pounds when fully grown.

The First Lady’s son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Jessica Heineman, gave the puppy to her for a birthday present in March of 2010.

Sam and Jessica have a similar dog named Oxley.

To name the puppy, the First Lady collected suggestions from children that visited the Governor's Mansion on tours. The Governor and she picked Snickers from among the suggestions.

Snickers is a friendly dog and looks forward to meeting Nebraskans as they visit the Governor’s Residence.

September 16, 2011 Update from the Residence: Snickers had a full and fun day, welcoming supporters of MADD’s “Tie One On for Safety” campaign. Snickers even got his own red ribbon to show his support.

Update from the Capitol: Today I got to attend the Light It Up Blue celebration at the State capitol. I enjoyed making new friends with the Autism Family Network and the Autism Society of Nebraska.

February 7, 2011 Update from Snickers: Ahh, a dog's life. I love to snuggle with fresh laundry. Towels, rugs... mopheads. Today I stole this mophead from the clean laundry basket and decided to use it for my pillow. :)

December 8, 2010 Update from the Residence: The Governor and First Lady had a news conference at the house today. I enjoyed meeting the law enforcement and public safety official afterward. They help keep us safe.
