Dear Fellow Nebraskans:
Nebraskans have a new way to renew their vehicle registrations. In addition to renewing by mail or at the office of their county treasurer you can now renew your vehicle registration online.
The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles has launched a new service on its Web site, http://www.clickdmv.ne.gov. Online vehicle renewal is the latest service to be added to the menu of e-government services available to Nebraska residents and businesses.
To renew a car or truck registration online, you will need the information on your current vehicle registration slip or the renewal postcard from your county treasurer, along with your bank account information or a major credit card. The online application automatically verifies insurance information and takes just a few minutes to complete. New tags and a registration receipt are then mailed to you by your county treasurer’s office.
Some commercial vehicles are excluded due to additional documentation needed for license renewal, but nearly 1.9 million of the 2.2 million vehicles in Nebraska are eligible to have their registrations renewed online.
Prior to the launch, creating an option for online renewal was one of the most requested services by Nebraskans. It is a project that was years in the making. I want to congratulate everyone involved in this project for making it a reality for the people of our state. The Department of Motor Vehicles worked with the staff managing our state web portal, Nebraska.gov, to develop the application and the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office tested the program prior to its launch.
This new service will be an asset to county treasurers across Nebraska. The Department of Motor Vehicles works closely with offices in issuing renewed driver licenses and processing new vehicle registrations and vehicle renewals. These activities represent a significant investment of time and resources for county treasurers. We are pleased to provide easier, more convenient ways to help our partners in fulfilling these responsibilities more efficiently.
This has been a productive year for the Department of Motor Vehicles. In addition to completing the online vehicle renewal services, the department launched online services allowing Nebraskans to order specialty plates and reinstate a driver license. These are just some of the services available on the department’s Website, http://www.clickdmv.ne.gov.
A link to the online renewal application and other popular services can also be found at the state Web site, http://www.Nebraska.gov.
Earlier this year, the Center for Digital Government recognized the Department of Motor Vehicles for developing services that offer citizens convenient ways to interact with government. This latest service is an example of the department’s commitment to being more customer-friendly and customer-responsive.
