Gov. Heineman appointed U.S. Attorney Mike Heavican to succeed Chief Justice John Hendry on Nebraska's Supreme Court.
Heavican will take over leadership of the state's judicial branch in early October, and will be Nebraska's 23rd Chief Justice.
