Gov. Dave Heineman speaks at one of several news conferences to announce federal funds for homeland security efforts across Nebraska. He began the day with an announcement at the Douglas County Emergency Operations Center in Omaha, joined by Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, Nebraska's director of homeland security. Gov. Heineman then flew to Scottsbluff, holding a regional press conference in Gering at the Scotts Bluff County Commissioners' Hearing Room. He also flew to McCook, where he made regional grant announcements at McCook Community College. And he ended the day in Kearney, where he announced grants in a classroom that trains central Nebraska's future first responders.
