Gov. Heineman Orders Flags to Half-Staff
in Honor of Lt. Gov. Bill Nichol

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today ordered state and federal buildings in Nebraska to fly state and U.S. flags at half-staff on Monday, Dec. 4, in honor of the life and service of former Speaker of the Legislature and Lt. Gov. Bill Nichol, 88, who passed away Wednesday in Scottsbluff. Others were asked to lower their flags as well.

Lt. Gov. Nichol was selected by Gov. Kay Orr to serve in her administration in 1986, after a distinguished career as a state senator and Speaker of the Legislature.

"I was deeply saddened by the news that our State and its people had lost a good friend and leader in Bill Nichol, but I am pleased for his family and for the citizens of Nebraska that we have an opportunity to honor his years of service," Gov. Heineman said.

Funeral services for Lt. Gov. Nichol are being held at 10 a.m. Monday in Scottsbluff.
