(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced that he is accepting applications for the next director of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The position will remain open to applicants until the close of business on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at which time the names of all applicants will be made public.
At the Governor's request, DNR Interim Director Ann Bleed plans to apply for the permanent post. She has served as interim director since August 2005.
"In order to help Nebraskans confront this challenge, we need a leader," Gov. Heineman said. "We need someone who is willing to get his or her hands dirty, to take criticism whether warranted or not, to take input whenever possible, and to use sound science to help manage our water challenges. Few people know more about those challenges than our interim director, Ann Bleed, who has done a very good job."
Gov. Heineman added, "She and I have talked, and after some deliberation, I am accepting applications for the next director of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources because Nebraskans deserve to know they have the very best in this arena. If Ann is the best, then I will proudly appoint her at the conclusion of our search."
Individuals interested in the position should send a cover letter and resume, along with a completed application form, to Peggy King in the Governor's Office, at P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509. The application form is available on the Governor's Web site at http://www.gov.state.ne.us, and is also available by calling the Governor's Office.
State law requires the DNR director to be a professional engineer with at least five years' experience in irrigation-related work. Anyone with questions about the position may call the Governor's Office at (402) 471-2244.
