Gov. Heineman Appoints Tony Fulton
of Lincoln to District 29 Seat

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today appointed Tony Fulton of Lincoln to fill the open seat representing District 29 in the Nebraska Legislature.

Current District 29 Sen. Mike Foley of Lincoln has resigned his post, effective at the close of business on Dec. 29, because he was elected State Auditor of Public Accounts. The district covers a significant portion of southeastern Lincoln.

Gov. Heineman said, "I selected Tony because of his knowledge of state issues, his focus on reforming our tax climate to the benefit of families, and his leadership experience. He speaks the language of business and people, of numbers and compassion."

Fulton is founder and CEO of Guardian Angels Homecare, an eldercare company that employs 90 people in the Lincoln-Lancaster County area. He owns Lifedegrees.com, an Internet-based business that sells novelty gifts, and he also provides media consulting services for businesses, political purposes and non-profit clients.

An engineer by training, Fulton still works as a consultant for domestic and international energy projects. He has previously worked as an engineer at Alvine and Associates Inc., Johnston Heat Recovery, Energy Recovery International, and the Nebraska Public Power District. Fulton earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, emphasizing energy and thermal systems.

In 2005, Fulton represented Nebraska at the White House Conference on Aging and was elected as spokesperson of the three sub-committees on which he served. He is a public speaker on eldercare issues, citizenship and community activism. He is a member of the Better Business Bureau, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, the Lincoln Independent Business Association, and a first-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Fulton said, "It's not lost on me how great an honor this appointment is. There were several other highly qualified, reputable people willing to step up and serve their fellow citizens. I am both fortunate and thankful for this opportunity. My first priorities on behalf of my constituents in District 29 will be intelligent, policy-driven tax relief, a review of opportunities for government efficiencies, and Medicaid reform."
