(Lincoln, NE) Nebraska State Labor Commissioner Fernando "Butch" Lecuona III has been honored with the 2006 Eagle Award from the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA), Gov. Dave Heineman announced today.
The Eagle Award honors individuals for their efforts to serve workers and employers in the United States. Recipients are recognized for their contributions to workforce development, unemployment insurance, employment, and labor market information services. Lecuona was presented the award at this week's NASWA annual meeting in Boise, Idaho.
"Leadership is a quality that is plain to see and difficult to emulate," Gov. Heineman said. "I want to congratulate Butch on his selection to receive this prestigious award, and also to say that it shows the depth of respect our nation and state have for his hard work. This award reflects well on our state, and I appreciate his dedication in making Nebraska Workforce Development a national model."
Commissioner Lecuona was the first Nebraska Labor Commissioner to be elected president of NASWA in 2000. He served a second one-year term in 2004. NASWA is a national organization made up of state workforce administrators from across the U.S.
