Gov. Heineman Issues Temporary Waiver
to Lessen Stress on Diesel Supplies
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today issued a temporary waiver of laws regarding the hours of service for truckers hauling diesel fuel within Nebraska to help alleviate the potential for spot shortages of diesel during a peak time for agricultural usage. The waiver is effective only for truckers while driving in the State of Nebraska.
"High fuel prices are already causing farmers and ranchers serious stress at the fuel pump, but we cannot afford to allow supply disruptions during this key time for irrigators," Gov. Heineman said. "This waiver is an important step to help truckers and distributors get diesel to the locations where it is needed most."
The Nebraska Energy Office has been monitoring statewide fuel supplies. Regional diesel distribution terminals in North Platte, Columbus, Norfolk, Doniphan, and Lincoln were reporting low supplies of diesel. Fuel truck delivery drivers are therefore traveling greater distances for replacement fuels. Most of the state's diesel terminals expect to receive replenishing shipments in the next several days.
The Governor's executive order is effective today and runs through Aug 20.
