Gov. Heineman's Statement on Appeals
Court Ruling Upholding DOMA

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today applauded the ruling by the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the Nebraska Defense of Marriage Amendment. The ruling overturned an earlier decision by a lower court judge.

"On behalf of the voters of Nebraska, I am grateful that the Eighth Circuit has seen fit to uphold our state's right to define and defend marriage," Gov. Heineman said. "All stable societies base their successes on the unique bonds of the family structure, and I am pleased that we can define marriage as between a man and a woman."
