Gov. Heineman’s Statement on the
Passage of Federal Energy Bill

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman, in the wake of U.S. House and Senate passage of the federal Energy Bill, issued the following statement:

"This new national energy policy, while overdue, recognizes the value of using ethanol and other bio-based fuels to lessen our reliance on imported oil. By doubling the amount of ethanol used in transportation fuel, we can reduce our trade deficit, combat pollution and create economic opportunities in both rural and urban Nebraska."

"As the nation's third-ranked producer of ethanol, our farmers understand that this bill will open new markets for the clean-burning fuel their grain produces. Nebraska communities that have embraced ethanol have been rewarded with economic growth, and the future of ethanol has never looked brighter."
